Student groups asked to seek copyright for screening movies

Audio Cine Films sent an email today to U of T student clubs and societies implying that they have been screening movies outside of the copyright they control in Canada for many major studios.

“Contrary to what some groups and clubs might believe, no licensing agreement has ever existed between ACF and the University of Toronto covering leisure movie presentations,” writes sales manager Jean-Francois Cormier.

According to Cormier’s email, student groups can apply for “single presentation licences” for $100–$200 plus taxes.

It is not yet clear whether a response is forthcoming.
