On Wednesday, the UTM Eagles faced the UTSC Maroons in the men’s division-1 basketball finals. After being knocked out of the playoffs, four times in the last five years, UTSC was determined to get revenge.
The game was exciting from the tip-off. In the first half, UTSC outplayed UTM on the defensive and offensive end, entering the break with a seven point lead. However, UTM didn’t let that repel them.
In the second half, UTM played with fire in their eyes. They stepped up their defense, capitalized on offense and knocked down their free throws. UTSC didn’t fold that easily, they stuck close, trading baskets until the dying minutes of the game when the Eagles pulled away.
Led by star forward Alan carty, who graduates this year, UTM pushed the lead to nine in the last two minutes of play. Carty scored the lst point of the game and his career, going out in style. The final score: 95-85 for the UTM Eagles.
