Rustic Garlic Bread

Bread. Garlic. Butter.

Put those three together and a mouthwatering aroma of garlic will appear alongside a golden crisp crust. Yes, we’re talking about a timeless classic: garlic bread.

I can’t recall when I first took a bite of that crunchy bread, but I do remember that the dish immediately became a household favourite in my family. From ordering garlic bread at the local Pizza Hut and at brunches to ordering it as appetizers—there was no end to my family’s obsession. I eventually tried to recreate the dish and experienced varying levels of success.

The hardest part of this recipe is achieving the delicate balance in the proportion of garlic and onion. Too little garlic will reduce the bread to nothing more than onion and cheese. But with too much garlic, your breath will scare away all living souls who make the mistake of approaching you.

While it may be tempting to simply order the appetizer or buy a prepackaged supermarket version, I’d advise getting the knives out and preparing the side dish yourself. Come on—you can never have too much garlic bread.
