Living Arts Centre in the spotlight

The Living Arts Centre’s 2010/2011 onstage season features an eclectic mix of events, including ballets, operas, comedy showcases, and dance performances. Past shows included the State Ballet Theatre of Russia’s adaption of the holiday favourite, The Nutcracker, which featured a beautiful and lavish set design of snowy forests in a world of fantasy. The meticulous and vibrant costume design also heightened the mood, while the ballet troupe’s effortless dancing to the classics of Tchaikovsky resonated long after the performance ended. Another great event was the Mississauga Symphony presentation of Longworth Plays Saint-Saëns, featuring a wonderful solo by the renowned pianist Peter Longworth, as well as the timeless music of Robert Schumann and Jean Sibelius, under the direction of guest conductor, Michael Roháč. The entire programme was flawlessly executed, and it truly showcased the great talents of Mississauga’s Symphony Orchestra, as well as Longworth’s expertise behind the piano.

Upcoming events include Smash the Roof: An All Women Comedy Show on January 22, 2011, featuring Debra DiGiovanni and Sabrina Jalees; Moulin Rouge: The Musical on February 14; Lizt Alfonso’s Dance Cuba on March 2; and Opera Kitchener’s performance of The Barber of Seville on April 15. The Living Arts Centre is Mississauga’s central outlet for arts and culture, and any LAC performance will surely entertain just as much as anything downtown.
