There had been much anticipation behind the posters that boasted the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day pub night at the Blind Duck. Wednesday night’s event promised to include only the highest calibre of . On this particular St. Patrick’s Day, EDM fans and pubgoers would be getting lucky in more ways than one.
Although the pub night was not organized by UTMSU this time around, it was still promising—and offered free admission, opening its doors by 10:00 p.m. Organizer Richie Pyne said that the pub night brought more success than he had initially expected.
“A few personal friends came by to support our club as well as the DJs, including myself, who were performing that night,” Pyne says. He adds that he couldn’t have done it without the help of the ICCIT Council and the Music Production Club at UTM.
“I surprisingly enjoyed it,” he continued. “It was one of the best pub nights of the year for me. Though not as many people as I wanted to show up came, I left with a strange smile on my face.”
The pub night was a smaller event, but it had a cozy, classy feel to it. Music blared from every side of the pub and the sounds of Skrillex and Steve Aoki were consistent throughout the night. Though lacking an abundance of people, it still made for an electric night.
EDM-themed pub nights are rare at UTM, so Pyne is glad to have established one this year.
“I really wanted to bring an EDM-oriented pub night to UTM,” Pyne said. “Now, since that has been done, I can make it even bigger for next year.”
