On Thursday night, the UTM Sexual Education Centre held its annual sex pub at the Blind Duck. This event, one of the largest of the year, attracted well over 450 students.
Some of the events of the night included jelly wrestling and a sex-doll competition. All had special
prizes for the participants, such
as SEC t-shirts and an over-
night stay in a Niagara Falls hotel.
DJ Mallon played upbeat
music in sync with the contests.
According to the SEC executives, the event was almost sold out. They also expressed their satisfaction at the more queer-positive atmosphere at this year than at last year’s event, which some queer students had complained about.
“It was extremely fun and just heart-warming to see that a huge event that I had helped organized actually went reasonably smoothly,” said Vihnson Tran, one of the event’s organizers. “Also, I was glad to see that there were no issues of homophobia.”
The SEC argues that UTM needs these events because students, as young adults, feel the need to express themselves creatively. According to Tran, the event is also a great way to open people’s eyes to diversity on campus and to foster acceptance. SEC volunteers ran multiple aspects of the event, including tickets sales and event management. In addition, the Out@UTM club assisted the team in promoting the event.
S.E.C raised over $4000 from ticket sales, which they will donate to the Sexual Assault and Rape Crisis Centre of Peel.
