On February 17, the Psychology Association of Undergrad Students in Erindale will be holding its annual Variety Night at the Blind Duck. Doors open at 9 p.m. and all are welcome to attend.
The event, which was voted best event by UTMSU in 2009, has been a PAUSE tradition for the past 15 years. Dr. Jeff Graham began the Variety Night and has performed with his band every year.
The night will consist of a talent show, a silent auction, and raffle prizes. The event is free and all who attend can win free giveaways, including movie tickets.
This year’s Variety Night currently has 15 performers scheduled to sing solos, perform in bands, and showcase their dance moves. This year’s event will also showcase a fire-spinner. The winner of the talent show will receive $100.
Performances will include the likes of first-year psychology professors Dr. Dax Urbszat and Dr. Jeff Graham with his band.
“Variety Night is PAUSE’s biggest event; it’s just a guaranteed good time,” said Katy Kosyachkova, an advertising director at PAUSE. “We’re really proud to showcase such wonderful talent at UTM. It takes a lot of hard work to set up an event such as this, but in the end it’s really worth it.”
Kristina Glavan, PAUSE’s VP, added, “Variety Night really gets the university’s talented people exposed, which is great and motivating.”
The event will also include a bake sale and tables set up with psychology paraphernalia, such as t-shirts and gear.
All proceeds collected at the event will go to ErinoakKids, an organization that works toward helping children and youth with physical, developmental, and communication disabilities so they can become independent.
“Variety night is our small way of assisting local charities, both financially and by raising awareness. This year’s talent showcase is no doubt going to be one of the best we’ve had yet, as students vie for the $100 grand prize,” said Hina Sait, an advertising director at PAUSE.
