The Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre held their second annual Food for Fines event during the last week of November.

The library donated 9,681 pounds of non-perishable food items to the food bank run jointly by UTMSU and Community on Campus, according to the food bank.

UTM students traded one food item for a $2 reduction of their library fines, to a maximum of $20. Many students reached the $20 maximum but still brought in more than was necessary to clear their fines.

Shane Chan, an information loans technician at the library, was the Food for Fines project lead. He revealed that last year—the first time the tri-campus event was held—UTM raised the most food, with almost 1,200 items.
