50 percent voter turnout saves U-Pass

50 percent of eligible students voted in the UTMSU referendum to continue the eight month U-Pass and introduce a new summer U-Pass for students enrolled in summer classes. , the summer U-Pass and eight-month U-Pass were passed. 5018 of 5334 full-time student ballots cast were in favour of the renewal of the eight-month U-Pass and 4961 of 5337 in favour for the summer U-Pass.

Part-time students, who were only eligible to vote for the summer U-Pass, cast 75 out of 84 ballots in favour for the new addition.

The 2011/2012 school year will now see the addition of a summer U-Pass for $85, added to summer school tuition fees for all students. The eight-month U-Pass will be continued for the new price of $130, a 31% increase from this year.
