U of T receives film collection

The Special Collections Archive of the Media Commons at the University of Toronto has received a collection of over 400 films originating from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Donated by Colin Geddes, a film archivist and the international film programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival, the collection boasts 200 feature films and 225 trailers on 35 mm film from the 1970s though the 1990s.
Many of the films are rare and cannot be found elsewhere in North America. Several feature the early work of acclaimed directors such as Ronny Yu Yan-Tai, Ringo Lam and John Woo. The collection also includes films that were salvaged from Toronto Chinatown cinemas after they closed down.
The collection will be housed in the Media Commons in U of T’s Robarts Library and will be made available to students.
